Mass Spec to exhibit at the 2016 BMSS Meeting

The annual BMSS meeting is returning once more to sunny Eastbourne and promises to be another exciting and entertaining event, with new ideas for sessions and three confirmed plenary speakers. The meeting opens on the evening of Tuesday 13th of September, concluding at 5pm on Thursday 15th - preceded by the highly popular Introduction to MS course, running on Monday 12th and Tuesday 13th of September. The meeting will feature a full Exhibition, evening entertainment, a Poster session with prizes and the Conference Dinner.

This year’s Plenary Speakers are Professor Renato Zenobi, Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) Zurich, Professor Alison Ashcroft, University of Leeds and Professor Jack Henion, Cornell University and Advion, Inc.

The meeting also features a manufacturer’s exhibition involving over 30 industrial groups. Mass Spec Technology Solutions will once again showcase their products for MS lab equipment. Welcome to Mike Gross, the latest member of the distinguished group of high mass converted Q-Tof users!

Professor Mike Gross at Washington State University ordered a high mass conversion for his Q-Tof Ultima. Return shipment to St Louis has been made and the installation and training was completed by specialist engineer Danny Reilly.

We thank Prof Gross for his order and are pleased to welcome his research group to the growing numbers of converted Q-Tof users for high mass studies and wish the St Louis team great success in scaling the protein mass heights.

The Q-Tof Ultima HM

Since the acquisition in 2011of MS Horizons, the company founded by John Hoyes, Mass Spec Technology Solutions has supplied the tools world-wide permitting access to the mass mountains for research teams studying the structure of high mass protein material by MS.

A high mass conversion for the Q-Tof Ultima provides an instrument ideally suited to study protein structure at the 800 to 1000 KDa level, work currently being done at pioneering laboratories as at Oxford University with Professor Carol Robinson’s group and with Professor Albert Heck’s team at Utrecht University.

The Q-Tof’ Ultima’s modifications include use of higher gas pressure in the transfer hexapole region enhancing ion stability and transmission –an ideal situation for the study of non-covalently bound complexes for example - and an increase in collision energy to 400eV in the CID gas cell together with increased gas pressure to promote molecular ion fragmentation yielding enhanced structural information.

Professor Mike Gross’ Q-Tof Ultima HM has been installed in his lab in Washington State University, USA, following it’s high mass update at the Mass Spec Technology Solutions works in Ashton-under-Lyne, Manchester.
We thank Mike for his order for the conversion of his Q-Tof Ultima and wish him all success in this exciting and growing new field, extending the boundaries of protein material study by MS.
